After Maha Bharat this locality came under the control of Nakul and Sah Dev. There after, it was conquered by Chandel Pawar Dahelia Rajput dynasty lineage of Shishu Pal. Chandel built fort, palace and Chandr Bawadi (step-well). The city used to be known after the name of Chandeli or old Chanderi. In 270 BC under Maury kingdom, king Ashok built a Boddh Math near the fort, the ruins of which can be seen in walls of Ladnu Garh. In 232 BC Samprati, grandson of Ashok built a grand Jain temple; ruins of which are safe in Digambar Jain Greater temple.
